Splitting trip costs: common questions
How does the splitter work out who pays whom?
It adds up what each person paid and what each person owes, then finds the fewest payments that settle everyone. If the group splits into two separate pairs of people who owe each other, it suggests two payments instead of one long chain.
What if someone only shared some of the costs?
Pick who shares each expense when you add it, or switch to custom amounts to enter an exact share per person. Only the people you pick are charged for that expense.
Is my trip saved or uploaded anywhere?
No. The trip is kept in this browser only. A trip link carries the whole trip in the part of the address after the # sign, which browsers do not send to our server, so only people you give the link to can open it.
Can I use more than one currency?
Not in one trip. Pick a single currency for the whole group and enter every expense in it. The currency label is display only and nothing is converted.
