Baggage questions
Why do these allowances differ from what my ticket says?
Allowances depend on the fare you bought, the route, the date of purchase and your frequent-flyer status. The figures here are typical Economy allowances compiled by hand, so your ticket and the airline's own baggage page always win.
Are cabin bags always free?
No. Several low-cost airlines include only a small under-seat bag, and some airlines' cheapest fares exclude the carry-on or the checked bag. Check what your fare includes before you pack, because adding a bag at the airport is usually the most expensive way.
Is the cabin size the same as the weight limit?
No. Airlines set both a size limit and, often, a weight limit, and enforcement differs. Some only check the size with a sizer, others weigh every bag at the gate.
What if my bag is over the limit?
You will normally pay an overweight or oversize fee, or be asked to move items into another bag. Weigh your bag at home and keep a little spare room under the limit.
