Avoid Airport Exchanges

Airport currency booths charge 5-10% more than banks or local ATMs. Withdraw cash at your destination instead.

Use a No-Fee Travel Card

Many banks offer debit/credit cards with no foreign transaction fees. Apply before your trip to save 2-3% on every purchase.

Carry Some Local Cash

While cards are widely accepted, street markets, taxis and small shops often prefer cash. Convert a small amount before you travel.

Pay in Local Currency

When offered "pay in your home currency" at a shop or ATM abroad, always choose local currency to avoid dynamic conversion markups.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

The rates come from the free Open Exchange Rates feed (open.er-api.com). Our server keeps a copy for up to an hour and the provider itself refreshes its table about once a day, so the converter is a good guide for budgeting but not a live trading quote. The line under the result shows when the rates were last updated.

Why is my bank or card rate different from this converter?

This tool shows the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices. Banks, card networks, ATMs and exchange booths add a margin or a fee on top, so you will usually get slightly less foreign currency than the converter suggests. Compare the total you pay, not just the headline rate.

Can I type amounts with a comma or a space?

Yes. Amounts such as 1500, 1,5, 1.234,56, 1,234.56 or 1 234,5 are understood, and the page tells you how it read your number so you can check it. Letters, negative amounts and numbers above 1 trillion are rejected with a message.

Can I use these rates after I lose my connection?

For a while. The page keeps the last rates it loaded in your browser and uses them if the live request fails, and it says so, with the date they are from, so you know how old the figures are.
