Trip Budget Calculator

Estimate your total trip cost before you go. Enter your expected spending on flights, accommodation, food, activities and more - then adjust the number of days to see a realistic budget breakdown. Perfect for planning any vacation from a weekend city break to a month-long adventure.

Enter costs for the whole group - we divide by travellers.

The starting numbers are examples, not typical prices - replace them with your own estimates. The currency is a label unless you tick "Convert my amounts", which converts your entries once at the day's mid-market rate.

Start from city data (optional)

Pick up to four cities and the nights in each. We fill the number of days and the food, transport and activities lines from the daily ranges we publish for each city, in euros. Hotels and flights are never filled in - those stay yours. Last reviewed 17 August 2026; planning ranges, not live prices.

    Budget Travel Tips

    Set a Daily Spending Limit

Divide your total budget by the number of days. Track spending each evening to stay on target.

    Book Accommodation with a Kitchen

Self-catering for breakfast and lunch can cut your food spending noticeably compared with eating out every meal.

    Use Free Walking Tours

Many cities offer tip-based walking tours that cost nothing upfront. They are often the best way to explore.

    Travel in Shoulder Season

Visiting just before or after peak season is often cheaper for flights and hotels, with better weather than the off-season. Compare dates before you commit.

    Get Travel Insurance

A basic policy is usually a small fraction of your trip cost and can cover cancellations, medical emergencies and lost luggage. Read what is excluded before you buy.

    Use Public Transport

Taxis and rideshares add up fast. Day or multi-day passes for metro and bus systems are often cheaper than paying per ride.

    Trip budget questions

How do I estimate a trip budget?

List the one-off costs first (flights, insurance, visa), then estimate the daily costs (stay, food, local transport, activities) and multiply by the number of days. Use real quotes for flights and the stay, and your own spending habits for the rest.

Should I enter costs per person or for the whole group?

Enter the whole group's costs, then set the number of travellers. A room shared by two is one accommodation cost for the group, and the calculator divides the total by the number of travellers to show the cost per person.

How much extra should I add as a buffer?

Many travellers add a contingency of roughly 10 to 15 percent for surprises. That is a common rule of thumb, not a measured figure, so adjust it to how predictable your trip is. Use the contingency buffer field to add it as a percentage on top of everything else.

    Does the calculator convert currencies?

Only if you ask it to. By default the currency selector changes the symbol and nothing else. Tick "Convert my amounts when I switch" and your entries are converted once at the daily mid-market rate; your bank or card rate will differ a little. The currency converter shows the rates in full.

Where do the city figures come from?

The optional "Start from city data" panel uses the per-adult daily ranges for food, local transport and attractions that we publish on each city cost-of-travel page, in euros, last reviewed 17 August 2026. They are editorial planning ranges, not live prices, and they leave out hotels and flights. How the total is split across food, transport and activities is our rough rule of thumb, so adjust it.

Are days and nights the same here?

The calculator multiplies every per-day line, including accommodation, by the number of days. A trip of 7 days usually has 6 nights, so if you want accommodation counted for 6 nights, lower the nightly rate a little or enter the number of nights as the days.
