Corn Whiskey

Hailing from the United States, Corn Whiskey is a much-loved spirit. Traditionally it features corn.

Corn whiskey emerged in the early American colonies, where settlers found corn easier to grow than the barley or rye used in European spirits. Its production became especially common in the Appalachian backcountry, where small farmers distilled surplus grain into a potent, unaged spirit. Today, the name legally requires a mash of at least 80% corn, and it is typically clear or lightly aged in used or uncharred barrels—distinct from bourbon, which must be aged in new charred oak.
